Q&A
Question: Why can't people just leave my dog alone?!?
( Back )
Answer #1:
Tell them exactly what you told us.
Answer #2:
You let them know by politely reminding them.
Answer #3:
Tell your grandmother and your father that if they make the dog sick they can clean it up.
Answer #4:
I don't know what to tell you. Some people just don't listen. To not honor your request that your dog not be fed table scraps is very rude. Perhaps if you tell them that if she requires vet care they will be responsible for paying for it will nip this poor behavior in the bud. I used to hate it when people would feed my horse stuff. I went out to the barn one day for a cook-out and some a hole was feeding my horse a hot dog. A hot dog, for Pete's sake! Then they acted all stupid and like I was a moron for asking them to please not feed him any more. I mean, they're strictly herbivorous.
Answer #5:
Tell them why! If you don't trust them, than maybe she should be put into a room while you are eating.
Answer #6:
Tell them it makes her sick and the vet bill is theirs if they continue to do it. I had the same problem with a dog I had. She had severe food allergies and after a bad reaction and a vet visit, I kept the receipt from the visit, showed it to anyone trying to feed her without my permission, and told them they'd be getting a bill just like it if they chose to feed her.
You can make her a vest or bandanna that says "please don't feed me - I have allergies" and have her wear that. Maybe it will make people think before even considering feeding her anything without your permission.
Also, keep her with you anytime someone is around, especially with food. Leashing her to you isn't cruel. It's protecting her. You can make it enjoyable by teaching tricks using praise and giving her lots of cuddles and toys.

Answer #7:
If people will not respect you, then perhaps you can crate your dog just while said people are around. I know it's not fair, but it seems to be the only sure way to prevent it.
