Q&A

Question #1: How many dogs have *you*,personally, trained to do anything ?

How many have you titled?
In what events?
To which titles?

Have many have you even reliably housebroken?

Question #2: Can you train an 11 month old dog?

Hey, I have put a deposit on an 11 month old Rottweiler. He is at the lost dogs home and he is only $115. Hes been de-sexed, vaccinated and chipped. When I first saw him in his cage he barked at me and then stopped. He would stop for a bit and then would start barking again but knowing Rottweilers they are guard dogs so I asked the lady about him anyway. She said that he came in the day before and offered me to go in the cage with him, I went in and he was very playful and licked my hands heaps, I could see that he was still acting like a pup even though he was a decent size. I fell in love with him and put a $10 deposit on him. She said that he will be ready on Tuesday because that's when all the tests will be done and they will have a better idea on hes temperament. I have looked at lots of different Rottweilers, looked at countless pups and have done my homework. I'm a very committed person who will not neglect him and would be willing to train him consistently. He was given up because the man that had him moved into a friends place in which they did not allow dogs.

Is this dog a major risk? Can he be taught at his age? If you are a dog person please tell me your opinion.

Question #3: will my dog beg and have bad behaviors.......?

My husband has a Siberian husky and she is four years old. He got her before we were married and right off he started feeding her people food. She begs really bad. She pretty much get into your lap when you are eating and I feel as if that is very rude and disgusting. I personally do not like hair and dog drool in my food. I made him stop feeding her people food when we had our first daughter because it was out of control and I didn't want the dog to start begging my daughter for her food. Well long story short I am getting a Great Pyrenees in January and I am the one who will be the primary care taker of this dog including the obedience classes and my dog will not get any people food. My husband seems to think that my dog will beg just as bad as his dog and I don't think that he will but he keeps telling me I am wrong. What do you think? What can I do to prevent this from happening? His dog is very poorly behaves.... still uses the carpet to go to the bathroom and still eats things. I know what you are thinking why get another dog.... I am getting it because it has been my dream to have one of these dogs and it will be trained correctly and by me, myself but am just making sure I can prevent the bad behaviors that the dog we already has so that my dog will not do them himself. Help!! Serious answers please! Thanks

Question #4: So I'm training my dog to walk off leash and..............?

He's pretty good at it.

Except that whenever he sees another dog,I have to put the leash back on because he runs straight over to it and there is always a 50/50 chance that he will attack the other dog.

He's fine if the dogs are behind a fence though.

So how do I teach him to ignore other dogs? Distracting him with treats doesn't work.Neither does turning around and going the other way (like that Victoria lady on TV said to).
He's been to obedience school.

Question #5: Getting a Korean Jindo, any tips?

We have a 3 bedroom house with a medium/smallish-sized backyard. I'm not the one adopting the dog, but I'd like to have some tips on how to train it or at least coexist. Anyone have any information about Korean Jindos?
